Tomorrow I will build a house… where?

By some spectacular fluke of nature — or rather the spectacular initiative of some wonderful people — the emergent, self-organising consciousness that is Tomorrow I will build a house here, if I can hold still is managing to tour Europe this December by hopping parasitically between musicians’ bodies. Try to make one of these performances:

06.12 | London | Zinajda Kodrič + Myriam Garcia Fidalgo (clapTON Ensemble)
07.12 | Paris | Paolo Vignaroli + Karolina Öhman
12.12 | Graz | Zinajda Kodrič + Myriam Garcia Fidalgo (Schallfeld Ensemble)
16.12 | Basel | Paolo Vignaroli + Karolina Öhman
20.12 | Berlin | Bettina Junge + Mathis Mayr (ensemble mosaik)

There are fascinating differences to be discovered in the way each duo handles the piece, so suffice it to say it’s a pretty exciting month for me.

rumour — distant land in Bludenz

Berlin-based quartet DieOrdnungDerDinge are going to give the first performance of rumour — distant land at tonight’s opening event of this year’s Bludenzer Tage zeitgemäßer Musik. We’ve been hard at work since late on Tuesday and the whole evening should be memorable. (It will also feature vocal performances from the spectacular Ute Wassermann.) Thanks go to everyone who has made this happen!

ensemble mosaik at Harvard

ensemble mosaik poster, 4 October 2014On Saturday, 4 October, Berlin-based ensemble mosaik are performing at Harvard University. The culmination of a weeklong residency, they are presenting new pieces by Trevor Bača and Josiah Wolf Oberholtzer as well as performances of some of Sivan Cohen-Elias and Stefan Prins’s most recent music. My latest piece, Tomorrow I will build a house here, if I can hold still, a duo for flute and cello, is also on the programme.

In my case, I can’t thank Bettina Junge and Mathis Mayr enough for their hard work and thoughtful rehearsal. It has been a real pleasure.

Darmstadt 2014

Summer is drawing to a close and I’m flying back to the USA. Before it ends, here we are in Darmstadt, workshopping ideas for a new work, rumour — distant land, with Gwen Rouger, Franco Venturini and Simon Steen-Andersen. Experiments with the musicians of soundinitiative will inform the use of cassette players in my work being premiered by DieOrdnungDerDinge in November at the Bludenzer Tage zeitgemäßer Musik.
